Top 5 Bay Area Mountain Biking Trails

There is an abundance of mountain bike trails in the bay area. Many trails are fun, some are technically challenging, and a few will push you physical and mental endurance. With so many options, where should you go to ride? Here are my top 5 picks for the bay area mountain bike trails.

1. Tamarancho ( Boy Scouts) – Located near Fairfax California, this is my top pick for mountain biking. This is not just one trail. You have multiple options, nothing too steep or too technical. And the scenery will blow you away. Tamarancho is like Disneyland for mountain bikers.

2. Wilder Ranch – Located near Santa Cruz, California, Wilder is a beautiful trail system with ocean views as well as Redwood lined routes. Most of the trails make for good cross-country riding, but there are some challenging, fun, and technical sections throughout the park to satisfy the most experienced rider.

3. Soquel Demonstration Forest (Demo) – Located near Aptos, California, I call this one the roller coaster of mountain biking. You start with a 30 minute road/trail climb and then the fun begins. You have three options at the top – technical, really technical, and even more technical. The only thing bad about Demo is that you have to climb out after you finished having fun.

4. China Camp – Located near San Rafael California, this is a great cross country ride and the perfect place to bring friends and family that are new to trail riding.

5. Waterdog – Located in Belmont, California, this is a small, fierce, and very technical trail system. I love it because it is a gem located in the heart of Silicon Valley
