Aqua Fit classes use the natural resistive forces of water to strengthen both muscles and the cardiovascular system. Water exercise has proven to be one of the healthiest, most versatile whole-body workouts for top athletes, fitness enthusiasts, youth and seniors alike.
About the Classes
Aquatic Wellness Basic (Low Level)
The purpose of this basic Wellness class is to provide therapeutic exercises addressing age related weakness, mobility challenges, injuries, post-surgical interventions and those with chronic disease. Specific exercises are included for improving static and dynamic balance, preventing falls, developing body and postural awareness, improving strength, flexibility, breathing and circulation. Regular attendees typically report a reduction in muscle and joint pain, improved comfort and experience fewer falls and fall related injuries. Participants needing assistance may bring a caregiver or helper to the class. The pool has stairs for easy entry and wheel chair lift for assistance. The instructor Sheralee Beebe encourages those participants with a complicated health history or current health challenges to register for a private orientation and assessment prior to attending the group class. This is a progressive program. Clients will see considerable improvements and may progress to the more challenging Aquatic Wellness Plus class.

Aquatic Wellness Plus (Intermediate Level)
This class is a moderate to intermediate level, progressive, functional and therapeutic aquatic exercise program that educates participants on healthy aging, restorative wellness and injury prevention. The purpose of this program is to educate participants on improving muscle mechanics, recover lost range of motion, strength and improve overall physical function, balance, co-ordination and agility. Core stabilization is an important focus of the program resulting in a strong spine and body core that will help alleviate back pain. Each exercise offers functional carry over benefits for active living. The individual coaching style will guide participants to achieve the most from their time in the water.
Aquatic Wellness Plus participants may attend any of the Aqua Fit classes offered as a progression to higher level cardiovascular fitness training or as a variety to their fitness schedule.

Aqua Fit classes use natural resistance and buoyancy of water against your body to provide a wide variety of conditioning and cardiovascular activity. Water exercise has proven to be one of the healthiest, most versatile whole-body workouts for top athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and healthy active adults. We offer a variety of classes to meet and challenge your fitness goals. Many different types of resistant equipment are used, from gloves to ankle cuffs, noodles, flotation belts and hand buoys for complete muscular and cardiovascular exercise.
We also use a variety of music to enhance rhythm, flow, tempo, and motivation. Every aspect of each class is designed to increase aerobic fitness and muscle tone while having fun in the water. Students with or without swimming ability will benefit from this class and all levels of fitness are welcomed. Before starting an aerobics routine or class check with your health care professional.

Aqua Wellness Pro
Start out your new health and wellness program with the guidance of an experienced personal aquatic wellness trainer, who will assess your strengths and weaknesses and design a therapeutic and functional exercise program that meets the needs of your body, and your personal improvement goals. If you harbor a fear of water, confidently overcome this challenge in personalized sessions. Book one lesson to orientate yourself to correct exercise and body alignment and how to make the most of your efforts at the pool to improve your health and fitness. After initial session/s the trainer can refer you to the correct exercise class for your needs, or you can choose to book ongoing private lessons if you prefer. More details.

Annual Administration Fee
Masters, AquaFit, and Water Polo memberships require an annual $30 admin fee; All-Access Pass memberships (which includes Triathlon Team and Boot Camp) require an annual $60 admin fee. Monthly members are billed on the first day of the month and quarterly members are billed on the first day of the calendar quarter.
Student, Senior and Family Discounts
Student and Senior discounts are available for all memberships. Family discounts are available for family members participating in the same program. For these discounts, please contact the Service Center. Senior/Student discounts only applied to regular annual rates.

Cancellations and Refunds
If you would like to cancel your monthly or quarterly AquaFit membership completely, please fill out the online Cancellation Form. Cancellation requests may also be taken in person through the Service Center, (650) 781-5525. Cancellation requests must be submitted by the 15th of current month to terminate recurring payment/membership for the following month.

Aqua Fit: Water Exercise – This complete water fitness class uses a variety of exercises and equipment for beginners to active adults. We use pyramids, Tabata, circuits and exciting choreography to keep this a fun and interesting experience. Each class consists of warm-up, aerobic conditioning, cool-down, muscle toning and flexibility segments. Regardless of your age, size, experience or fitness level you can achieve noticeable results from this challenging workout. Class may take place in shallow water, deep water or a combination. AquaFit: Deep Water Workout – This workout is designed to maximize the benefits of working in a buoyant environment using flotation equipment. Set to a music theme of Broadway showtunes, classic oldies or popular music, we enter the deep water to do a circuit of cardio warmups, choreographed movements, endurance, high intensity intervals such as Tabata, strength and core training and stretching to cool down. AquaFit: Water Exercise – This class balances deep water and shallow water exercise set to a music theme. We start with a cardio warmup in the deep water and move through choreographed dance moves and endurance, then transition to the shallow for high intensity intervals (HIIT) and core and strength training. We cool down with gentle dynamic stretching. This exercise program is designed to encourage the beginner as well as challenge the active adult. Instructor: Sandy Bardas

AquaFit: Deep Water Workout – This class offers an Intermediate to advanced level of cardiovascular endurance work and is presented in the deep water. Aquatic Wellness Plus – A moderate, low impact, functional and therapeutic exercise program that educates participants on healthy aging, improved wellness and injury prevention. The class uses water walking, specific core strengthening exercises that are conducted in shallow and deep water. The goal is to improve muscle strength while increasing range of motion and flexibility. The class also focuses on strength training and core stability to improve back health safety. Functional exercises and personal instruction will guide individuals to achieve the most from their time in class. Level two participants may attend level three aquatic fitness programs as a progression or as a means to alternate the style of workout. Instructor: Sheralee Beebe

Aquatic Wellness Basic – This small group aquatic wellness class is designed to serve clients who desire the therapeutic benefits of adaptive aquatic exercise for mobility challenges due to the aging process, injuries and chronic medical conditions. The program will assist clients to become water safe and offers progressions toward both personal goals and program goals of good posture and body alignment, improved body awareness, reducing discomfort and improved breathing during exercise. In addition, participants will learn how to improve major joint range of motion, functional mobility and balance while gaining muscle strength. Participants needing extra assistance may bring a caregiver or helper as a co-participant in the class without a fee. This is an entry level class with limited enrollment and registrants need to be approved by the instructor in advance to ensure optimal readiness for the program. One outcome of this class is that clients may progress to the level two aquatic wellness classes. Instructor: Sheralee Beebe
Our Aqua Fit Coaches
Cherie’s passion for water fitness began in 1995 when she joined her first YMCA class as a participant. Bitten by the “water bug” she went on to complete her United States Water Fitness Association certification in 1997. Shortly thereafter she began teaching water fitness classes at the Peninsula Family YMCA in San Mateo and is currently the director of the Aqua Fit program at Menlo Swim and Sport.
In February 2003, Cherie completed the National Aquatic Fitness Certification awarded through the Exercise Science Alliance. In 2006 she co-presented at the European Aquatic Fitness Convention in Karlsruhe, Germany with Charlotte Beyer-Olsen, an international instructor and presenter. In 2007 she attended the Hydro-Fit Academy in Eugene, Oregon for education in shallow water exercise teaching methods and training techniques with specialized equipment. In 2013 she completed the WATERinMOTION® instructor training and has launched this new wave in aqua exercise along with presenting a variety of water exercise classes. She has also completed and maintained the Aquatic Exercise Association certification. Cherie has earned a reputation in the San Francisco Bay Area as an exceptional instructor. She maintains her passion by continuing to attend classes and fitness seminars yearly to expand her knowledge and creativity.
Sheralee Beebe has a Bachelor of Arts degree – Post Medical Aquatic Specialist. In 1991 Sheralee was hired to manage a swim pool in a senior complex where she experienced firsthand the transformative healing powers of water exercise and therapy. Inspired, she sought out the newly formed Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute for knowledge advancement. She jumped in with both feet and was soon hired as a faculty member in 2006-2012. During this time she developed several important aquatic therapy certifications and has authored several training manuals for ATRI. In addition pursued post-graduate medical training from various colleges, studying Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, Kinesiology, Athletic Injuries, and Massage Therapy Courses. Sheralee has received certifications from by AEA, CALA, SCW, in aquatic fitness and is Certified as an aquatic therapy professional by ATRI, and other organizations such as the arthritis foundation. In addition her education includes land based therapy topics and was certified as a Medical Exercise Specialist from the American Federation of Health and Fitness Professionals. Sheralee is passionate about the benefits of aquatic therapy and the healing power of water. Her enthusiasm for the health benefits of aquatic exercise creates a climate for class participants, both educational and fun. Although classes are group learning the coaching and support is highly individualized and affirming regardless of fitness level or limitations.
Carol obtained her Water Fitness certificate in 2006 from ISSA, the International Sports Sciences Association. Carol has been an instructor with Menlo Swim and Sport as well as many other local venues, teaching water aerobics for the last 8 years. Each year she participates in the “teach-the-trainers” training offered by Sara City Workout obtaining the latest trends and concerns for water workouts. Her other training has been obtained through Water Aerobics Unlimited particularly in deep water and safety. Carol also participates and shares regularly in local classes offered locally by her peers.
Before retiring from fulltime work, I was a clinical pharmacist at Stanford Hospital & Clinics. I am still a pharmacist member of both the federal and state Disaster Medical Response Team where I have been deployed to hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and fires around the USA and its territories. I believe that my medical background assists me as a certified Aquatic Exercise Instructor. I am very interested in helping everyone to maintain fitness and wellness in an enjoyable, supportive and congenial environment.

The water is maintained at a warm 86-87 degrees. A great temperature for your recreational enjoyment.
If you are worried about wearing a bathing suit consider wearing leggings and athletic top or sun guard. Dress for coverage and warmth as needed.
During the summer season we recommend using sunscreen and even wearing a hat and sunglasses in the pool. You will get better results if you apply sunblock 15 minutes before entering the water.
In the winter months, November through March, we cover the instructional pool with an inflated dome. The dome is a much-requested feature that provides a consistently warm and predictable environment so you can swim year-round without interruption due to weather.
Wear pool shoes if you have neuropathy, foot numbness or pain. Shoes are also recommended for shallow water classes to aid in traction and rebounding. Otherwise bare foot water workouts are great exercise to move and strengthen the feet and ankles.
Aqua Fit and Wellness class do not require that the head is submerged under the water. The high intensity workouts might get your hair wet due to water turbulence.
We have restrooms and a changing area plus showers for your use. Many clients wear a bath robe or swim coat over their bathing suit and shower at home.
The pool has a pro-shop which sells many supplies you might need from bathing suits, goggles, swim supplies as well as food and beverages.
