About Lifeguard Certification
Blended Learning Course Description
To become certified to work as a lifeguard, you must complete approximately 20 hours of in person training, 7 hours of eLearning (completed prior to the start of the course) and pass practical and written exams. Upon Successful completion, participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. All certifications are valid for two years.
We are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please complete the 7 hours of eLearning prior to the start of the course. If this is not completed before the start of the class, you will not be allowed to participate, and you will need to reschedule for a future date.
Please be prepared to listen and participate in Zoom meetings. You will need a mobile device or computer that can send and receive video. It is also important you have reliable internet and a microphone to communicate with the rest of the class. A Zoom Meeting invite will be sent to you before your first day. Please check your email for this invite.
This Certification will require an in-person skills demonstration at the Belle Haven Pool. For your 3 hour skills demonstration and written lifeguard test, please wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. It is important that you bring sunscreen, water and googles, as they will not be available for purchase. No changing rooms are available, only bathrooms. Your time is limited to 3 hours and failing to complete the skills during the time limit will cause you to fail. Please prepare for the practical skills by watching the online videos in the blending learning and watching closely during the Zoom Meeting.
