I can still remember my first Junior Olympic tournament like it was yesterday. In fact, my first Junior Olympic tournament was in 1991 in Orlando, Florida. This was the first time I traveled out of the state and without my parents. It was so frightening and exciting at the same time. I was lucky to be on a team that was able to win medals at these tournaments but that is not what I remember most. What I remember most is the long van rides, the team dinners, the late night chats, team cheers, travel and competition.
I am so excited to announce that Menlo Swim and Sport and the Menlo Mavericks water polo team will play host to the 10 and under division of Junior Olympics. Not only do we get to showcase water polo to the community, we also have the opportunity to showcase our facility to the water polo world. The Junior Olympic Tournament is the biggest water polo tournament in the world. But that’s not all, our very own 12 and under girls team qualified for Junior Olympics. It is a testament to the commitment and passion our athletes have shown for the sport of water polo that they have qualified only a year after starting to play this new sport. I can’t wait to create new memories with them as a coach this summer!
