Menlo Mavericks Water Polo: JO Shoot-Out

Menlo Mavericks Water Polo: JO Shoot-Out

anonymous  /  October 1, 2014

What a great summer! The Menlo Maverick girls water polo team qualified and competed at the Junior Olympics, and the Belle Haven Pool was host to the 10 & under division of Junior Olympics. We made water polo a common staple in the Belle Haven community.

The moment we hosted the first game at the Belle Have Pool we brought so many spectators and with that came the traffic. All our community neighbors stopped by to check out what all the whistles and commotion were all about. It was great! This has inspired more kids to try out water polo. Our 10 & under co-ed class is booming and we are so excited for the next generation of water polo players.

I think the best memory I have of Junior Olympics is our Menlo Maverick girls’ second game of the tournament. We were losing by one goal at the end of the game and we tied the game with :04 seconds. This meant they were about to experience their first ever penalty shootout. In my Olympic career, I have been in the same situation many times and thrived and enjoyed the moment. As a coach, I was a nervous wreck. I was not the only one, all the parents were just as nervous. The girls were fabulous and fearless! Unfortunately, we ended up short at the end of the shoot out but in my eyes we were winners for having the courage to step up and be part of this process for their team.

The summer was great but we are now into the fall and excited to participate in our fall league. Visit our Menlo Mavericks Water Polo website for more information, or stop by and check out a practice.

Go Mavericks!
