Register today for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at Menlo Swim and Sport. Learn lifesaving skills to help keep people safe in, on and around the water.

Review Course Description
This course is a 12 hour review course to renew the certifications of Currently Certified American Red Cross Lifeguards. You will be required to provide proof of certification on the first day of the course.

Upon successful completion of class, participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. All certifications are valid for 2 years.

Blended Learning Course Description
To become certified to guard or teach swimming, you must complete approximately 20 hours of in person training, 8 hours of eLearning (completed prior to the start of the course) and pass practical and written exams. To enroll, you must be 15 years old (by the end of the course) or older and possess a valid photo ID. The prerequisites include being able to swim 300 yards doing any combination of freestyle and breaststroke, 2 minutes of treading water using legs only, and completion of a timed event with a 10 pound brick.

Upon successful completion of class participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. All certifications are valid for 2 years. All certificates are delivered via email within 7 business days of completing the course

Special Group Lifeguard Training
Menlo Swim and Sport also offers Lifeguard Training to Special Groups, Aquatic Teams, Schools, and any organization that needs well-trained professional lifeguards. Our instructors can travel to your facility, an alternate location, or we can host your organization at one of our facilities throughout the Bay Area. Lifeguard Conditioning and Skills
Menlo Swim and Sport offers individual and group training for certified Lifeguards to practice their skills, and for aspiring lifeguards to gain the technical swimming skills to be successful in the course. Please contact Charlie Boeck at 650-330-2229 or cboeck@menloswim.com for more information.

There is a minimum of three registrants for the course to take place. Note: Our instructors are certified to teach Lifeguard Classes at your location, our location, or an alternate location, with a minimum number of enrollments.

Pre-requisites

Participants must be able to demonstrate the following:

  1. Swim 300 yards continuously, using a combination of breaststroke and freestyle with rhythmic breathing.
  2. Tread water for 2 minutes without using your hands. Hands may be in the water crossed against your chest or behind your back.
  3. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands on the object. When returning to the starting point, place the object on the deck and exit the water without using a ladder or steps. All of this must be done within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
