About Tattersols Running
The Tattersols is a San Franciso peninsula WOMEN’S ONLY running and racing team. Based out of Stanford, our objective is to maintain and build a solid foundation of women runners, from all backgrounds, with the common thread of fitness and fun. If you love to run; if you enjoy sharing weekly runs on the trails and workouts on the track; or occasionally racing on a team of diverse, interesting, and successful women; and if you live or work within a comfortable drive from the Stanford campus, Tattersols may be for you.
The Tattersols® are a USATF registered running and racing team in partnership with Team Sheeper.
Established in 1997, the mission of the Tatterols Women’s Running and Racing Team is to promote women’s success in the sport of running, to empower women to set and achieve personal athletic goals, and to maximize health and vitality through a supportive team environment.
The Tattersals were a group of Aboriginal women in the Australian outback who were observed running from settlement to settlement, communicating messages, sharing goods, gathering food and water, and in the process spreading culture. To the European (chiefly Scottish settlers), the women’s tribal dress looked very much like the traditional Scottish tattersal plaid, which the westerners quickly used to identify these runners. We use the name “Tattersols” to honor these strong, resourceful, and athletic women. We’ve changed the last syllable to “sol”, Spanish for “sun”, renowned in philosophical traditions with The True, The Good, and The Beautiful, and — for us — to signify the rise of women in athletics and the sport of running.
We are teammates with Team Sheeper who offers our women athletes the “best-in-the-business” triathlon and multisport training and racing options. As you check out our women’s running and racing team, look to Team Sheeper to see what combination of running, swimming, and cycling training suits you best.

What are my payment options?
Our teams have grown to a size where manual collection of cash or checks each month or quarter is simply not possible. Automatic payment by credit or debit card allows us to collect dues much more efficiently, and it also puts us in a better position to meet our payment obligations for our facilities, permits, and coaches in a timely manner.
What if I simply cannot afford it?
As policy from the inception of the Tattersols Women’s Running Team, no one will ever be turned away for an inability to pay. If you are having financial difficulty becoming or staying a full member of Tattersols, please talk to Head Coach Vince Digneo about possible options.
Meet the Pros
Vince Digneo – Founder and Head Coach, Tattersols
Coach Vince founded the Tattersols Women’s Running & Racing Team in 1997 as an answer to the need for quality, professional run coaching, specifically for women on the San Francisco Peninsula.
As part of the original pilot program for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program in 1993, he helped establish the national marathon and half marathon training programs with Founding Coach April Powers and South Bay Head Coach AnnaMarie King. After 14 years and over 26 seasons as Head Coach of the San Francisco Peninsula Team, Vince retired from TNT at the end of 2005. But during that time he coached well over 3,500 athletes, the majority of whom were women. Vince knew early on that there were few, if any, options for women runners and that they tended to improve faster, perform far better, and have more fun over the long term when coached in a women-only environment. By 1997, the Tattersols became a reality and 16 years later it is stronger than ever.
A former world-ranked Alpine skier and member of the U.S. National Ski Team, Vince competed in NCAA Division I skiing and soccer through college before turning to swimming and running as a graduate student. Since then, he as competed in many running, swimming, and cycling events from sprint to Ironman distances. He has run over 20 marathons and ultramarathons with a top-25 overall finish at the Honolulu Marathon. In triathlon, Vince has had numerous top-10 national age-group rankings, top-10 age-group finishes at numerous triathlons including a 9th place finish overall at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, as well as solid finishes at Ironman Australia, Ironman Florida, and Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawai’i.
Vince has a B.S in Chemistry & Biology from the University of New Mexico, MBA from the Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley), and graduate work toward PhD in Protein Biochemistry/Biophysics from Stanford University. He is currently the Global Environmental Sustainability Strategist at Adobe Systems.
