Frequently Asked Questions

Q. It is raining! Is my swim school lesson going to be cancelled?
A. Lessons continue rain or shine!  In the event of lightning or thunder, the pool will be closed for 30 minutes following the last event. If your swimming lessons are cancelled during this period of time you will qualify for a makeup lesson. Makeups must be scheduled within 30 days of the missed class.

Q. How do I schedule a Swim School class for my child?
A. For children six months to three years, your child will be placed in a Water Babies class. Our Water Babies class are a group lesson for one parent/caregiver and toddler/child. For a child who is over three years old and who has never had a swimming lesson, your child will be placed in a Swim Essentials class. Our Service Center Staff can also help you identify and select the appropriate level for your swimmer. Additionally, in your first lesson, the instructor can take the swimmer through our in-water progression to assess skills and ensure the class is a good fit. Bring a swimsuit, towel and goggles, and have your swimmer ready to get in the water. You can reach our Service Center here (650) 781-5525 and find a class online here.

Q. What is the Swim School schedule?
A. Menlo Swim School offers lessons seven days a week. The lessons are half an hour in length. Menlo Swim School offers lessons from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:30pm to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. Lessons are offered from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday and from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Once your child has been designated a level or if you are registering for a child in the Water Babies class (6 months to 3 years) or a Swim Essentials class (children over 3 years old who have no prior swim lesson experience) you can view the current open schedule and register on-line through Menlo Swim School’s online registration.

Q. Why will you not credit me for swim lessons if I want to cancel out of swim school before the end of the month?
A. All registrations at Menlo Swim and Sport & Menlo Swim School are on an Automatic Registration Billing Registration system. If you sign up for a membership, you are making a commitment for the entire month. If you would like to cancel lessons, a cancellation form must be submitted during the 15th of the current month for cancellations for the following month. Download the Cancellation Form.

Q. Will more Level One swim classes open up on Saturdays in the future?
A. Saturdays are the most popular day at Menlo Swim School. We would love to offer more swimming lessons on Saturday, but in order to expand we would need additional pool space. Also, in consideration to extending the lessons past 2:00pm on Saturday would mean that we would have to encroach on Open Swim schedule and pool space. At this time, we feel that it is important to preserve the Open Swim time to encourage families to come visit the pool and enjoy the pool together.

Menlo Mavericks Youth Swim and Polo Team

Q. How can I register for Mavericks?
A. Levels are clearly defined for Mavericks. All swimmers who haven’t recently attended Menlo Swim School and prior Mavericks who have been away for the program for six months need an evaluation! To be evaluated, simply show up fifteen minutes early and check-in with the Mavericks coach on the far side of the Instructional Pool. Bring a swimsuit, towel and goggles, and have your swimmer ready to get in the water promptly at the evaluation time.
Wednesdays: 6:30pm with coach Melissa. Once your child is evaluated, the coach will give you paperwork to fill out for the Menlo Mavericks program and the paperwork for USA Swimming. You will turn in the completed Mavericks paperwork and your check for USA Swimming membership to your child’s coach on the first day that you choose to bring your child to practice. The coach will then submit the paperwork to the Service Center office for processing. You will receive an e-mail receipt of the registration transaction.

Q. Where can I find out more information about Mavericks?
A. You can find out pricing and practice information on the Mavericks brochure in the lobby or your can link over to the Menlo Mavericks website.
